Famous for its stunning city landscape, deep-dish pizza, hotdogs, baseball, beautiful parks and lake views, the city of Chicago is one of my favorite places to visit. This year for my 26th birthday, my family and friends took me back to my hometown for a weekend celebration! It was the perfect getaway filled with great food, incredible sightseeing, and endless adventures. It was a bit chilly, but totally worth it! Thank goodness I still had my winter clothes from New York!❄️
Grab your winter coat, quit your diet, and join me on our trip below!
We stayed at “The Blackstone” hotel located in the heart of downtown Chicago. This ornate hotel was built in 1909 and is the perfect example of neoclassical Beaux-Arts architecture. Inspired by Paris designs, the hotel combines contemporary and classical themes. To make it even more incredible, “The Blackstone” has accommodated some of history’s most legendary figures such as President Truman, Paul Newman, President Taft, President Carter, President John F. Kennedy, President Eisenhower, Charles “Lucky” Luciano, and Al Capone. How cool is that?! It also offers breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and Grant Park!
We were lucky enough to be gifted “The Suite of Presidents” as our hotel room. This iconic room has hosted 12 consecutive U.S. Presidents and continues to be the home of many prominent dignitaries and diplomats.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 While in this suite, John F. Kennedy heard the news about the Cuban Missile Crises in 1962 and President Eisenhower watched his Presidential Nomination in 1952. We had chills knowing we were walking in the footsteps of such historical people and moments. Check out the beautiful pictures of “The Blackstone” below!
We arrived into Chicago on a Thursday and immediately started our adventures! We visited the Skydeck in the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower or “Serious” Tower as I used to call it as a kid😂). It has a glass ledge that extends four feet outside of the 103rd floor of the tower! You literally feel like you are stepping out into the clouds! I had trouble looking down! It was such a surreal feeling. If you are afraid of heights, this experience may not be the one for you haha!
Later in the evening, we ventured into Millennium Park to see the famous “Cloud Gate” or more commonly called “The Bean.” I highly recommend visiting “The Bean” at dusk. The reflections and lighting of the city on its surface were beyond anything I’ve ever seen.
We finished the night off with some legendary Giordano’s pizza and called night one a success!!👍
Happy Friday! This was by far my favorite day because we went to a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field! I am a huge Cubs fan and haven’t been to a game since I was a little girl. They have now built tons of cool bars and restaurants right outside of the stadium. It was a baseball lover’s dream! We played the Atlanta Braves and unfortunately lost. Shhhh! Don’t tell anyone. It was still a great game and no matter the score…GO CUBBIES!!!⚾🐻 To top it off, we even made it on TV!! We’re officially famous.😎 Be sure to grab a hotdog at the stadium!
At the end of a fantastic day, we ordered my favorite deep-dish pizza, Lou Malnati’s. You can even order their pizza online and have it shipped to you. I have it shipped out to me in LA all the time! It is beyond incredible!🍕🍕🍕 Look how in love I am with the pizza…
On Saturday, we took a ferry for the Chicago Architecture Tour. It was raining and freezing, but still one of the coolest tours I’ve ever done. It is a definite MUST the next time you visit. Not only do you get to travel down the famous Chicago River, but you get to see and learn about Chicago’s incredible architecture. Make sure you sit up on the top of the boat for the ultimate viewing experience!
After our tour, we went and ate lunch at my favorite hotdog and Italian beef sandwich restaurant, Portillo’s Hot Dogs. The food is beyond amazing and they offer beer and wine too. The restaurant gives off an old-school Chicago vibe that fits the classic diner style. I recommend the Italian beef sandwich, a side of onion rings, and a root beer. It doesn’t get any better than that!
On our last and final day, we decided to keep it classy and visit the Chicago Athletic Association. This hotel used to house an exclusive sportsmen’s club. It has a Game Room, a Cherry Circle Room, a Drawing Room, and a Milk Room. With its vintage furnishings, sport-themed rooms, and Gothic exterior, you feel as if you have been transported back to the 1890’s. We had brunch at Cindy’s, a rooftop restaurant and bar. Located on the 13th floor, Cindy’s offers unmatched views of Millennium Park and Lake Michigan. The food was AMAZING! It is the perfect brunch destination!
Until next time Chi-Town!
I LOVE CHICAGO! It is my hometown and my favorite city. It is the perfect vacation getaway! I recommend going in May, June, July, or August when the weather is warm and summer in the city is in full swing! There are endless adventures to experience in Chicago and we barely scratched the surface. We will definitely be returning for Round 2! Even Cali is a Cubs fan! Check out her new favorite Chicago Cubs blanket below.😀 Until next time! Ciao Bellas!
