Mt. San Jacinto State Park

Over the Mountain and Through the Desert to Mt. San Jacinto We Go.

It’s time to grab those hiking boots, put on some cute Lululemon leggings, rock a messy bun, and ascend into the pristine wilderness that is Mount San Jacinto State Park. Located in the heart of Palm Springs, California, the mountain reaches an elevation of 8,516 feet. This state park offers year-round campgrounds, hiking and biking trails, horseback riding, picnic areas, and stunning views. During the winter months, certain areas of the park are even covered in snow, offering backcountry and cross-country skiing.

To get to the park, your best option is via The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. It is the world’s largest rotating tram-car that carries you up to the Mountain Station. If you are afraid of heights, this mode of transportation may not be the best for you! For no more than $25.95, this 10-minute tram ride will transport you two-and-a-half miles through the Chino Canyon cliffs and up to the mountaintop. Make sure to get a window spot and have your camera ready to capture some breathtaking views!

Once you reach the Mountain Station, you can enjoy restaurants, gift shops, viewing decks, and a natural history museum. The holy grail of this mountaintop paradise is the 50 miles worth of hiking trails. From beginner paths to those that require a real mountaineer status, Mt. San Jacinto State Park offers a variety of trails for all skill levels.

I visited in mid-January, when the air was still crisp and a light blanket of snow covered the grounds. Perfect hiking weather!👌 I decided to venture along the Desert View Trail. This moderate level hike comprises of a 1.5 mile loop with scenic overlooks and peaceful forest landscapes. Throughout the trip, there are five designated “notches” or viewpoints that offer incredible views of Palm Springs, mountain ranges, and the valleys below. Bring some snacks and a good book, pick a comfy rock, and relax while taking in the surrounding beauty.

Mt. San Jacinto State Park is the perfect nature getaway. For my next visit, I plan to take advantage of the campgrounds and get my s’mores game on. Comment with your experiences at this park. I would love to hear your stories! For your pleasure, here are some more stunning, Instagram worthy pictures below. Enjoy! Ciao Bella!
